Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
