Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
