The President Calls Families of Injured Military Members to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Mourners assembled over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to assist public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Sarah are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt issuing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
