The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
